If you want your company to be competitive then you need to get creative and use everything, recycling what you do not use or find a different use for it, so your scrap is zero'd out. That ought to be the goal of every company, especially those who want to run around and call themselves environmentally friendly or want to claim they are a Green Company.
Because in the end really efficient companies are green automatically as they have very little waste or scrap. Efficiency is the key to profitability in any company. Of course, this is not the only thing you need to do if you want to be an environmentally friendly or green company, but it is a start and it is the first place you should concentrate your efforts.
One example I'd like to use in today's lesson is one of a company that makes furniture in South Carolina. It found that much of the sawdust that was left over was causing a severe problem and fire hazard. The company created a secondary division to make cheap office furniture that was pre-made from particle board. Most all the material to make the particle boards was the leftover sawdust from their exclusive home furniture lines.
The company decided not to hurt its brand name of its expensive furniture sales brand and therefore it created a secondary brand and sold the pre-made office furniture to big box store retailers. This strategy worked well and they made money on their waste and why not, that's just good business and who can fault that? Please consider this.
